About the 3 Courts Bombed in Rivers State
Three coordinated court bombing occurred in Rivers state yesterday the state police command has said. A high court was bombed in Port Harcourt, the state capital, while two others were similarly attacked in Degema and Isiokpo, police said.
Barely 48 hours after the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria declared the suspension of the eight-month-old strike in Rivers State, unknown persons have bombed the three separate High Courts.
The incidents were coordinated and happened almost simultaneously in the wee hours of Monday, just as the State Police Command confirmed that minimal damages were recorded and no life was lost.
It was reported that one of the courts in Degema was completely razed by unidentified arsonists with many documents burnt beyond recognition.
Meanwhile, The Rivers State Police Command has denounced violence after an explosion rocked the judiciary court premises at Degema, Isiokpo and Port Harcourt.
In a statement, Ahmad Muhammad, Police Public Relations Officer for Rivers State, confirmed the incidents.
“The Rivers State Police Command wishes to confirm that in the early hours of Monday, coordinated attacks were launched on judiciary court premises at Degema, Isiokpo and Port Harcourt with explosive devices suspected to be dynamite by unidentified and unpatriotic assailants,” he said.
“Minimal damages were recorded in Port Harcourt and Isiokpo scenes without affecting the court building and documents while at Degema the court building was razed down and documents burnt. No life was lost. Areas are now under police control while Police Bomb Disposal Unit has commenced discreet investigation in earnest,” Muhammad added.
“We must realize that violence is never and will never be a solution to problems,” said Muhammad.
“The command reiterates its determination to provide adequate security to judicial workers and all courts in the state,” he added.
