The United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) on Thursday trained 146
women on disease surveillance and data keeping in Hadejia, Jigawa, NAN reports
The Training Coordinator, Mr Mustapha Ibrahim, said this at the inauguration of the one-day training exercise in Hadejia.
Ibrahim said the exercise was designed to expose the participants to modern communication skills and data keeping.
He said that the training would also enable the women to create awareness on health issues such as Routine Immunization (RI), ante and post natal care as well as disease surveillance.
The coordinator said that the exercise was part of a comprehensive campaign to enhance health care delivery at the grass roots.
“The exercise is designed to equip the women with communication skills to encourage mothers to visit hospital and promote routine immunization.
“They are also expected to educate the people on important health tips to control transmission of diseases,” he said.
Ibrahim said that the participants were selected among the Volunteer Community Mobilisers (VCM) from six local government areas of the state.
The local councils are: Auyo, Birniwa, Guri, Hadejia, Kafin-Hausa and Kirikasamma.
According to him, the exercise was conducted through a collaboration between the UN agency and the Jigawa State Gunduma Health System.
