The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said the intervention
of the Presidential Initiative on support to victims of insurgency with
relief packages had relieved the psychological trauma of the
Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
Alhaji Auwal Abubakar, Senior Relief Officer of the agency, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Potiskum, Yobe, on Tuesday.
"Providing the victims with the immediate needs of food, clothing and bedding have contributed immensely to relieving them from the psychological trauma they suffered from the insurgents’ attacks," Abubakar said.
He said the presidential initiative provided food, clothing and bedding to victims of insurgency in Yobe who were displaced and taking refuge in Damaturu and Potiskum.
He said the initiative had through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) donated relief packages to IDPs in Damaturu, and, now donated 16,000 bags of rice to 8,000 IDPs in Potiskum.
"The displaced persons here in Potiskum are mostly from Gujba, Gulani and Damaturu local government areas,” the relief officer said.
He said NEMA was collaborating with Red Cross, Jamaatul Nasrul Islam (JNI) and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to ensure that the targeted victims got the relief materials.
"NEMA will continue to provide assistance to all victims in other local government areas as part of the programme to cushion their hardships," he said
