President Goodluck Jonathan has called on the World Health
Organisation (WHO) to declare the country free of Guinea Worm and
Polio epidemic, following the successes recorded by the federal and
state governments on the epidemics .
Jonathan, who spoke at the Palace of the Asagba of Asaba, Obi (Prof)
Chike Edozien yesterday when he led PDP presidential campaign team to
the monarch, noted with satisfaction that his administration had
totally eradicated the two deadly diseases, adding that WHO should
take necessary steps in declaring the country free as it did in the
cases of Ebola Virus.
President Jonathan, spoke about the achievements of his
administration in the areas of health, power and education, emphasised
that the power sector would have been totally revamped by ensuring
that the sector was kept in safe hands before leaving office
He further stated that security would continue to receive impetus with
the determination to spread development to all parts of the country.
In his welcome remarks, Obi Edozie conveyed the endorsement of the president for a second team by of the South- South and South- East zonal traditional rulers in the forthcoming election.
The endorsement, according to the Monarch was not only informed by the
giant stride of his administration but on their belief that he is in the
best position to implement the just concluded National Conference
report.
Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmnauel Uduaghan expressed delight at the
visit of the president to the state, saying that his administration
had been enjoying a robust relationship with traditional rulers as they
had contributed greatly to the socio- economic and political
development of the state.
