The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Scheme (NSITF) has announced plans
to collaborate with the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) to ensure
that medical workers across the country benefit from the Employees Compensation
Scheme (ECS), This Day reports.
The NSITF held a meeting with the
Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) in Abuja, where it appealed
to the council to ensure its members are covered by the ECS.
Managing Director of NSITF, Mr. Umar Abubakar said the scheme is prepared to engage practitioners in exhaustive interactive sessions to help them understand the benefits of being part of the scheme.
He described the Employees’ Compensation Scheme as a revolution
introduced under the transformation agenda of the federal government. It
replaced the defunct Workman Compensation Act of 1942 as amended.
“The current Scheme is much more beneficial as it covers all workers in
the Federation, whether private or public,” he explained.
The Registrar/CEO of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Dr.
Abdulmumini Ibrahim, in his response, promised that the Council will
ensure compliance with the ECS through the NSITF
