Diet therapy is the modification of normal diet to meet the
requirements of people that are sick. Some people do not like it when they are
told that they need a change in their diets, especially when they are sick, for
example, diabetics and hypertensive patients need to follow a strict diet
regimen for optimum health. Sodium is a no go area for hypertensive’s and so
on.
Diet therapy in most instances is not a remedy but it
measures the supplements and makes the treatment more effective. Life style
modification includes following a diet therapy, weather for a weight loss
program or as a result of major or minor illnesses.
Diet is used as therapeutic aids not only for nutrients but
also to supply needed agents for wellness and also to prevent complications.
Reason for diet therapies are:
To correct deficiencies.
To maintain body’s ability to metabolize nutrients.
To afford rest for the body.
To help regulate body weight and mass index.
So, when next you become sick and your doctor tells you that
you need to see a dietician or if your doctor gives you a food therapy to sooth
you illness, do not complain, just follow the regimen correctly, so as to gain
complete wholeness.
