Nigerian Nurses and Midwives begin full strike
The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNW) met in Calabar, Cross River State over the weekend and ordered its members to suspend all forms of skeletal and concessional services in hospitals across the country.
National President of the National
Association of Nurses and Midwives, Mr. AbdulRafiu Adeniji, has said the
recent threat by the government declaring a “No work, no pay” policy
was a strategy that would not intimidate the striking health workers.
He said the directive by the Federal Government would not cow members of the Joint Health Sector Unions to return to work.
He added that nurses and midwives were
ready for a long battle with the government over the contentious issues
until their demands were met.
Adeniji said the latest resolution to
suspend skeletal services was informed by the refusal of key officers in
the Federal Ministry of Health to attend a scheduled meeting with
JOHESU on December 15.
