Millions of people across the world - and including in Britain - looked to the sky last night to catch a glimpse of the stunning Geminid meteor shower.
Mirror UK reports that the spectacle was visible throughout the night from around 10pm.
At its peak later there were between 50 and 100 shooting stars every hour with the show visible throughout the world.
The Geminid meteor shower is a nighttime sky spectacle that lasts around 10 days in December ever year - but this weekend is the climax of the show.
And anyone who stayed up late on Saturday evening was rewarded with spectacular multi-coloured meteors, which included occasional rapid bursts of two or three.
Sky watchers said conditions in many areas were "perfect" with clear skies.
The best time was around 2am because that's when the ‘radiant’ – the point in the sky from which the meteors appear to originate – was almost overhead, next to the constellation Gemini.
Meteor showers occur when the Earth is in the path of clouds of cometary dust.
Tiny particles burn up brightly in the sky and they enter the atmosphere.
