Bungling surgeons left a man to suffer 12 years of stomach pains after they accidentally left a pair of scissors inside him after an operation.
Karp Ponomaryov, from Kazakhstan, underwent life-saving surgery more than a decade ago, but a gaffe by medical staff left a 20-centimetre long pair of surgical scissors inside his body.
Since then, the 53-year-old has suffered intense stomach pains after eating large meals, but never complained as he was just happy to have survived the surgery.
But he sought treatment after he suddenly lost his appetite a month ago, and started losing weight.
Doctor Baurzhan Aybaev, 44, who examined the x-ray said: "I've never seen anything like this, maybe a surgical swab occasionally but a huge piece of surgical equipment like that should have been missed or at least noticed sooner.
It must have been painful."It appears the surgeon, who retired three-years-ago and has since died, forgot them in patient's body during a surgery 12-years-ago.
"He now needs another surgery to remove the scissors."
The victim has said that he is not looking to sue the hospital, and has only asked that they arrange to have the scissors removed immediately.
