Fraudsters Open Facebook with Lagos Police Commissioner's name
Lagos State Police Command says it has has uncovered a fake Facebook account bearing the name of its Commissioner of Police, CP Kayode Aderanti.
According to a statement by the state
Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Ken Nwosu, the account in
question which is ‘CP Kayode Aderanti’ was recently introduced by one
shadowy character as the authentic Facebook account of the Commissioner
of Police, Lagos State Command, to members of the Social Network with
the intention of giving the impression that images being displayed and
comments from this fraudulent account are made by Aderanti.
“For
the avoidance of doubt, the Commissioner of Police Lagos State Command,
CP. Kayode Aderanti does not in any way operate a Facebook account
(either official or private). Therefore, the
Commissioner of Police
advises all members of the public and in particular Facebook users to
ignore the said account as it does not belong to him.
“Consequently,
any correspondence or exchange of messages on the page has nothing to
do with the
Commissioner of Police Lagos State Command or any officer of
the Nigeria Police Force at large. We therefore advise the general
public to disregard any comments, solicitations and approaches from this
account as it is certainly not operated by CP Kayode Aderanti or any of
his officers.
“While efforts are being made to apprehend the character (s) behind this fraudulent act, let me assure the general public of the resolve of the Lagos State Command to sustain the tempo of crime fighting to ensure that Lagosians and all others who have cause to come to Lagos enjoy a conducive environment for business and leisure,” Nwosu said
