Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is paternering with the Government of Nasarawa State in the area of healthcare delivery. This project is to help boast primary healthcare delivery transformation in the thirteen local government areas of the state.
The Director of Integrity Delivery of the foundation, Mrs. Dona Hoving, stated this when he led members of the foundation on a courtesy visit to Governor Umaru Tanko Almakura at government house Lafia.
Mrs. Hoving explained that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has identified seven states in Nigeria as their potential partners which it would assist towards developing their health schemes.
She said that their primary priorities are on poor people particularly women and children in those states.
Responding, Governor Umaru Tanko Almakura explained that health and education are the key sectors that his government would accord high priorities.
The Governor said that when he came on board the state has more than seven hundred primary health care centres, more than half of which were mere consulting clinics or completely non-functional.
He said that those centres were reformed by his administration and centralised as primary health care development agency.
