Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is seeking partnership with the Lagos State government to strengthen primary health care in the state.
The foundation's deputy director, integrated delivery global development, Carlos Cuellar, made this known yesterday during a courtesy call on Governor Akinwunmi Ambode at the Lagos House, Ikeja.
Daily Trust reports that, the deputy director identified performance management and systems constraints as challenges holding back the primary health care system performance in Lagos and other states.
"We concluded, based on information that is available to us, that under performance of the primary health care system is not as a result of lack of efforts but rather an indication that there are root causes needed to be addressed," he said.
Governor Ambode expressed the state government's readiness to provide quality primary health care service to the people. He said the state government needed partnership and support from the private sector and international organisations on management of health care delivery in order to touch the lives of the people.
