This Abuja Community Decided To Renovate Their Health Centre After Years Of Neglect

The primary health centre Igu, in Bwari Area Council of the FCT received a little renovation after more than two years of neglect.

The roof of the primary healthcare centre in Igu, Bwari Area Council, was blown off subjecting the health workers and residents to untold hardships. Due to the deplorable state of the centre, some residents prefer going to neighbouring communities on bad roads to attend healthcare centres.

Daily Trust reports that, the roof of the primary healthcare facility in the community was blown away by strong wind twice and that on both occasions, government failed to come to their rescue.
The most recent lasted for two years. The two-year wait for remedy from the area council health authorities were futile, making the residents resort to other means. They took it upon themselves to repair the roof.

The community's youth leader, Samson Dabi, said the blown off hospital roof was reported to the council but nothing was done.

The first time the roof was blown off, Samson said it was the district head, Mr. Solomon Tazako, that gave the money used for the repair
"One of our elders donated zinc and carpenters in the community fitted it," he said while explaining how the roof was repaired the second time.

He lamented that no official from the area council visited the community to assess the damage done to the healthcare centre.
He said the residents reported several times to the area council but nothing was done to fix the centre.

Before the roof was fixed, Aisha Usman, a resident said the centre was not in good shape as it was on the verge of collapse, making it unsafe for patients and health workers alike.
The woman said she preferred to deliver at home than put her life at risk by patronising the centre.
Sa'adatu Isyaku, another resident, said the centre lacked the necessary facilities to care for the women.

On electricity, Samson said poles only lined the road leading to the community. He said there are no poles near the houses in community from where they could tap power to their houses.
He said the poles, more than two years old, have been of no use, including the transformer installed in the community.

He, therefore, appealed to the government to look into the plight of the residents
