Ebola: Reps Wants FG to Immortalize Dr Adadevoh

Image result for picture of dr adadevoh

The House of Representatives on Tuesday in Abuja called on the Federal Government to immortalise late Dr Stella Adadevoh by naming a medical institution after her.
The lawmakers also requested that the government should compensate the families of the late consultant and other health workers who died of the Ebola Virus Disease.
Adadevoh was the consultant who treated late Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian who brought the disease into Nigeria, at the First Foundation Hospital, Lagos. Sawyer died at the hospital.
Adadevor contracted the virus in the process of managing the Liberian and died shortly after.
The lawmakers’ resolution followed a motion by Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas (APC- Lagos State) on the need to immortalise the woman and compensate the families of health workers who contracted the disease while treating infected persons and died.
Okoya-Thomas noted that forceful refusal of Adadevoh to allow late Sawyer to travel to Calabar prevented the disease from spreading to other parts of the country.
The motion was seconded by Leo Ogor (PDP – Delta) and other lawmakers concurred that the late Adadevoh deserved to be honored.
In his contribution, Emmanuel Jime (APC-Benue State) called for adequate funding of the health sector in order to protect medical practitioners.
Nkiruka Onejiocha (PDP-Abia) said that honouring Adadevoh was long overdue, adding that "if Adadevoh did not sacrifice her life for this country, who knows if we will be here today?’’
In a voice vote, the lawmakers unanimously supported the motion in a session presided by the Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal.

Terminally ill Woman Choose to End Her Life in November

A terminally ill woman choose to end her life in November, She has crossed off the last item on her bucket list, as she and her family were able to travel to the Grand Canyon last week.

Fox news reported that After her wedding last year, Maynard began having severe headaches, and in January was diagnosed with grade II astrocytoma. Doctors initially gave her 10 years to live, but subsequent scans showed the tumor progressed into glioblastoma multiforme, the deadliest form of cancer with an average life expectancy of 14 months.
Doctors told Maynard her death would likely be slow and painful.
The family moved to Oregon where the state’s “Death with Dignity Act” allows people to choose to die using medication. Since the act was instated in 1997, more than 750 people have taken advantage of it.
“Sadly, it is impossible to forget my cancer. Severe headaches and neck pain are never far away, and unfortunately the next morning I had my worst seizure thus far. My speech was paralyzed for quite a while after I regained consciousness, and the feeling of fatigue continued for the rest of the day,” Maynard said on her website.
“The seizure was a harsh reminder that my symptoms continue to worsen as the tumor runs its course. However, I find meaning and take pride that the Compassion & Choices movement is accelerating rapidly, thanks to supporters like you,” Maynard said.
Maynard will die in her bedroom at home surrounded by her husband, mother, step-father and best friend.

More Personnel For National Hospital- FG

Image result for picture of khaliru alhassan

The Federal Government said it would employ more health professionals to work at the National Hospital Abuja.
The Supervising Minister for Health Dr Khaliru Alhassan stated this on Tuesday when he paid an impromptu visit to the hospital by 8:30am.
Dr Alhassan, who also visited the Federal Staff Hospital and Maitama General Hospital, all in the Federal Capital Territory, expressed satisfaction with service deliveries, state of the facilities, patronage, and punctuality of staff of the hospitals.

While addressing reporters at the National Hospital, he said: “As you can see, the hospital is in good hands. We met all the departments working the way they should be, the doctors are on their seats, the nurses are busy, the doctors are attending to one thing or the other.
I am very pleased at what I have seen today at the National Hospital. It has shown it is truly a National Hospital”. He said more of such visits at other institutions could be expected of the ministry in the future. “This is unscheduled; I didn’t inform them that I am coming. This was a surprise visit.
I came to see what my health people were doing; and I am very pleased at what I have seen today.” Speaking on the challenges he identified at the hospital, Alhassan said: “The challenges are work force; they still have challenges in the area of doctors. We are going to look into how to ensure there is adequate manpower to do the job.”
The Minister however expressed dissatisfaction with the failure of the hospital to display information on the Ebola virus disease on its walls.
He said: “We want to make sure that our health work force is always aware of Ebola. We have won the war but as long as there is Ebola case in the world, Nigeria remains at risk.
The health work force is the most important line of defenders in this country. Judging from the last outbreak in this country, majority (of persons who contracted the virus) were health workers. We must do everything to make sure that health workers are well informed and protected.
That is why we need to create that awareness all around us.” He also informed that for space constraint, it would be difficult for the National Hospital to expand its structures.
But he pledged that government would ensure availability of up-the-minute facilities that would put an end to medical tourism in the country.
Besides, he said government was already negotiating with the striking health workers in the country. He however said it was wrong for the workers to be on strike when government negotiates with them. “It is against Labour Law,” he said

'I can't help noticing how happy you look, 'Gloria smiles at him, 'What is your secret for a long happy life?'
'I smoke three packs of cigarettes a day, 'he replied, 'I also drink a case of whiskey a week, eat fatty foods, and never exercise.'

Tricky Logic

A doctor of psychiatry is doing his normal morning rounds at the hospital when he enters the ward.
He finds Arnold sitting on the floor, pretending to saw a piece of wood in half.  Meanwhile Mark is hanging from the ceiling by his feet.
The consultant asks Arnold what he's doing. Arnold smiles and answers, 'Can't you see I'm sawing this piece of wood in half?'
The consultant nods and continues talking to Arnold and enquires what Mark is doing on the ceiling. Arnold looks up and murmurs, 'Oh, he's my friend, but he's a little crazy. He thinks he's a lightbulb.'
The consultant looks up and notices that Mark's face is turning red and blue.
The consultant remonstrates with Arnold and says, 'If he's your friend, you should get him down from there before he hurts himself.'
Arnold replies with a sigh, 'What? And work in the dark.'

Ebola:President Jonathan is not happy With Stigmatization of Nigerians Worldwide

       jonathan angry

President Goodluck Jonathan said he is not happy with the way Nigerians are been stigmatized because of the Ebola virus scourge,he said that there is no justifiable excuse since Nigeria has been declared Ebola free by the World Health Organization.

Jonathan spoke while receiving the French Foreign Minister, Mr. Laurent Fabius and his German counterpart, Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, according to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati.

“He told the French Foreign Minister, Mr. Laurent Fabius and the German Foreign Minister, Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier that Nigeria will remain fully vigilant to prevent the re-entry of the virus because the Federal Government recognizes that the country will remain at risk as long as Ebola is active in other West African countries or any other part of the world.

“Nigeria, President Jonathan assured the visiting Ministers, will therefore cooperate fully with other concerned nations to stop the current outbreak of Ebola in West Africa as quickly as possible.

“The Ministers told the President that they were in Nigeria to seek further cooperation with the Federal Government in the growing global effort to contain the current outbreak and continuing spread of the Ebola Virus Disease.

“They praised Nigeria’s successful containment of the virus and expressed the desire of France, Germany and the European Union to collaborate more with Nigeria in helping other West African countries where the virus still remains active.”

Model used Tight-Laced Corset to Shrink her waist to 16 inches!

Kelly has been waist-training with a corset for seven years

Some people can really go to the extreme because of fashion and 'looking good'.
according to daily mail uk:
A 27-years old Kelly Lee Dekay shrunk her waist to a minuscule 16 inches using a steel boned tight-laced corset.
The model from New York, started 'waist training' seven years ago after being inspired by the extreme shapes of voluptuous Jessica Rabbit and Marvel super-heroine 'Storm'

Kelly was inspired to start waist-shrinking after becoming obsessed with cartoon characters like Jessica Rabbit as a child
She said: 'The corset can be restrictive when going up the stairs and you can't carry too many heavy things because you could hurt yourself.
'I actually did hiking in my corset and that's very dangerous.
'I also played soft ball in a corset once, that was an interesting feeling, but I don't go to the gym in a corset - that's really dangerous because I do weight lifting.

But despite the limitations, Kelly has no plans to hang up her corset, despite facing some negative comments online.
She said: 'I get mixed reactions.
'Some people really love it, some people really hate it, but I always did it for myself - I didn't really do it for people's reactions.
'I love modifying and its often mistaken that modification is being a means of not loving yourself but I modify because I can, because it's fun.
'People say that it looks unnatural, but I have big bright blue hair - what part of me screams that I want to be like everybody else?'

Ebola- Blood of survivors Sold in Black Market!

Now, this is so Scary, considering the Health implications.
Ebola has killed so many people in Africa and WHO had said that many more people may contract the virus by the end of the year if nothing is done to salvage the present crises.
presently, there is no cure and a lot of people have resorted to 'saving themselves'

I just saw this update on news24.
Read Excerpt
Attention has turned to the minority of people that have contracted Ebola and lived to tell the tale. Having beaten the virus, there is a high chance that their blood contains antibodies which can fight the virus.
This blood is referred to as a convalescent serum, and is a valid form of medical treatment. Recently, an American aid worker who contracted Ebola received blood from Kent Brantly, who survived his own infection, reported CNN. Some believe this could be the basis for an Ebola vaccine.
However, the treatment is by no means proven, or safe, and this means that there is no official distribution of convalescent serum. The desperation and fear tied to the disease means that a lively black market has sprung up to trade the blood of survivors, says the World Health Organisation (WHO).
How this black market works is unclear, and it is certainly possible for profiteers to flood the market with blood from people who've never had Ebola at all. What's worse, though, it the potentially catastrophic consequences of receiving bad-quality blood.
One of the most pressing concerns is that individuals will not seek out blood that is the same type as theirs. A transfusion of blood of another type can have serious health consequences, commonly including anaphylactic shock and death, reports the Washington Post. Given the low levels of education is many rural areas of West Africa, this concern is unlikely to arise until it's too late.
Another serious problem is the spread of other diseases. As this blood is not being distributed through official medical channels, it is unlikely to undergo proper analysis before being sold to users. This blood could thus contain HIV or Hepatitis, among many other bloodborne pathogens. In the patient's already compromised state, this diseases could quickly worsen their condition and even hasten death.
For their part, the WHO have pledge to work with local governments to stamp out this illegal trade, though it remains to be seen how easy a prospect this will be.

Image result for map of anambra state

12 HIV negative babies have been born to 12 HIV positive women attending antenatal health care at Saint Faith Hospital and Maternity, Awka, Anambra.

Chisom Ezulike, Matron of the hospital, disclosed this to Journalists Alliance for Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV in Nigeria (JAPiN), Anambra state chapter, in Awka on Friday.

Matron Ezulike said that, out of the 12 HIV positive pregnant mothers that enrolled in the hospital under PMTCT programme, none of their babies tested positive.
She further attributed the success to voluntary acceptance of the mothers, appealed to other mothers to access the programme for the safety of their babies.
She said that out of the 621 pregnant women tested for HIV by the hospital, about 50 of them were positive.

The matron said that the PMTCT programme was activated in the hospital in April 2013, adding that it had recorded 60 per cent response.

Matron Ezulike said that the PMTCT programme in the hospital was being sponsored by the Family Health International.

“What we meant by enrol is not that we are not getting positive pregnant mothers, but to push them to start taking Antiretroviral drugs because some of them even deny being positive.

“After testing and you are sure they are positive, they deny their status, so we have many of them, but those who agreed to come and access the care are only 12,’’ she said.

The Amazing 3-Year-Old One Armed Golfer

Three-year-old Tommy Morrissey of Palm Beach Gardens, who was born without a fully developed right arm, is the talk of the local fairways with his astounding 100-yard drives.

According to Fox news, He picked up the Game at the age of 18 months, transfixed by golf on television, and soon received his first set of clubs, bringing the driver with him to bed.
“When Tommy is really focused, though, he can hit the ball 100 yards straight and clean,” says dad Joe, according to Caters News Agency. “Because of that, sometimes it’s difficult to remember he’s just a toddler. Then there are times when we have to go back to a hole because he left his Matchbox cars there.”
Of Tommy’s one-handed approach, Joe says: “His arm is both a gift and a challenge.”
