The Ondo
state government yesterday organised a sensitization programme for health
workers, as part of effort put in place by the state government to prevent the
outbreak of cerebrospinal meningitis and also ensure that all health
personnel are ready to wage war against the epidemic in the state,
Giving his opening
remark Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr Taye Oni identified the busy
schedule of health workers which has prevented them from attending to their
personal health as one of the challenges confronting health workers and
stressed the need for them to prioritise their health in order to
be adequately fit to care for their patients.
This according to
him would go a long way in improving the health sector of both the state and
the country at large.
While
affirming that case of the epidemic is yet to be reported in the state,
he urged them to make good use of the opportunity to equip themselves
with the necessary information saying government is determined to protect
both the health workers and patients.
Speaking earlier,
Acting Chief Medical Director (CMD), State Specialist Hospital,
Akure, Dr Moses Adewole while expressing appreciation to the government for the
exercise noted that health workers are mostly at risk especially after several
contacts with patients (in case of outbreak) as the hospital is the first point
of contact.
While hinting that
the hospital has been chosen as one of the referral centres in the state,
Adewole however urged participants to be attentive all through the exercise.
