11 Universities Set To Commence Geriatric Medicine In Nigeria



             

Geriatrics or geriatric medicine is a specialty that focuses on the health of elderly people and the UN has designated June 15 as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD).

The day aims to focus global attention on the problem of physical, emotional and financial abuse of elders.


11 Nigerian Universities has commenced arrangements for post graduates study in geriatric medicine.

No More Street Trading In Imo State



           

The Imo State Government has put a ban to street trading in Owerri, the governor gave street traders less than one week to relocate to the places approved for them to trade.

This was as a result of the terrible state of environmental sanitation in Owerri, Imo State capital and other parts of the state.

The trouble at the Federal Medical Center Owerri, has taken a new turn as the executives of Nigeria Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP), the Medical Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) and all unions of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri are demanding the immediate suspension and thorough investigation of the Medical Director, Dr. Angela Uwakwem for various allegations bordering on financial misconduct and high-handedness.

First Penis Transplant Patient To Become A Father



                   

World first recipient of penile transplant is going to become a father very soon, at least by November because his partner is already four month gone.

This was announced by the head of the surgical team, urologist Professor Andre van der Merwe at Stellenbosch University during a public lecture on Thursday in South Africa.

The 21-year-old recipient recently informed the head of the university's Division of Urology his girlfriend was expecting.

Armed Forces Awareness Match To Save Lives Via Blood Donations



           


The Armed Forces Blood transmission center at the Nigerian Military Hospital Port Harcourt organised a public awareness match on the need to save lives through blood donations, in commemoration with the 2015 World Blood Donor Day.

The road match which started from the Military Hospital Gate at Aba road on Thursday had about 150 volunteers.

NDDC To Distribute Medical Equipments And Drugs Within 2 Weeks



                

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has on Thursday, requested that all purchased hospital equipments meant for the nine Niger Delta States of the Federation, be released for used with immediate effect.

The Chairman of NDDC, Sir Bassey Dan-Abia gave the directive after inspecting the items at the NDDC medical warehouse in Port Harcourt.

Photo:This Man Donated Blood To Save 2 Million Babies



James Harrison, 78, is known as 'The Man with the Golden Arm' because for the past 60 years he has donated blood to about two million babies.


Although he's been recognised as a hero and been given awards, James insists that there's one thing he's never done in more than 1,000 donations: "Never once have I watched the needle go in my arm.
"I look at the ceiling or the nurses, maybe talk to them a bit, but never once have I watched the needle go in my arm. I can't stand the sight of blood, and I can't stand pain."



Health Workers Suspend Strike,FMC Owerri To Continue With Strike Action



               


The Nigerian union of Allied Healthcare Professionals (NUAHP) has suspended its three week long strike with members ordered to resume work on Wednesday.


Although, the strike in FMC Owerri is to continue until all the local issues and demands are addressed.
