Man Records His Own Surgery On Smartphone And Is Shocked By What Medics Say About Him

           

An anaesthetist who trash talked her patient when she put him to sleep has been fined - after the patient recorded the whole operation on his smart phone.

Tiffany M Ingham, who was working as an anaesthesiologist in Reston, Virginia, was caught making rude and defamatory comments when a patient left the phone recording.

The man, who has been named only as DB in court according to his attorneys, had been worried about missing vital instructions after his colonoscopy procedure due to his recuperation - so he set his smartphone to record everything, which ended up including the rant.

When DB played the audio back on the way home, he heard that the team performing his surgery had mocked him as soon as he went under.

New Cases Of Ebola In Sierra Leone

               

Sierra Leone has announced the return of Ebola to its capital Freetown, dashing hopes that health authorities in the densely-populated city of 1.2 million had beaten the deadly outbreak.

Liberia was declared Ebola-free in May, but hopes that neighbouring Sierra Leone and Guinea would quickly follow suit have been dashed recently, with the weekly toll of infections in the two countries hovering around 25.
 

 The government’s National Ebola Response Centre (NERC) told AFP late on Tuesday that three cases had emerged in the east-end slum of Magazine Wharf — three weeks after the last known infections in the capital.
 

 Health officials said six people have been under observation since the first of the new cases — a casual labourer — tested positive on June 17.

UNFPA Said Nigeria Has The Highest Number Of VVF Cases In The World :(

           

The United Nation Population Fund (UNFPA) has estemated that Nigeria has the highest number of women with Vesico Vagina Fistula.

With the estimated two million women in the world suffering from VVF, about 680,000 of them are Nigerians, mostly from the Northeast and Northwest.

This is even as a total estimated 800,000 Nigerian women living with the condition around the country represent about 40 per cent of the global burden.

VVF is described as abnormal opening between the virginal and the bladder, a condition experienced by a woman either as a result of prolonged labour during childbirth in which the unborn child presses tightly against the pelvis, cutting off blood flow to the vesico-vaginal wall, thereby leaving a hole or as a result of violent rape, especially in cases of child marriages.

Katsina Health Ministry Has 40 Percent Casual Workers

             

How can a state have about 40 percent of casual workers in its health ministry?

A committee constituted by the Katsina State government has said that 40 per cent of health workers in the state are either casual staff or volunteers.

Chairman of the committee, Dr Labaran Doro, who disclosed this while handing over their report to the state government, said urgent action must be taken to address challenges facing the sector.

Daily Trust reports that, the committee also discovered that staff and equipment are not equitably distributed among health centres.

Doro said short-term measures must be taken to provide succour, including provision of drugs at health facilities. Responding, Governor Aminu Masari said misapplication of resources had greatly affected sectors in the state.

UCTH Health Workers To Resume Strike

         

The Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital have threatened to resume strike.

In a letter sent to the Chief Medical Director of the UCTH, Dr Thomas Agan, at the weekend, the union called for immediate payment of their 2013 promotion arrears as well as salaries.

FMC Ebute Metta JOHESU Threatens To Go On Strike

               

The Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU), at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ebute Metta, have threatened to begin strike Wednesday over unpaid allowances.

The Chairman, National Union of Allied and Health Professionals, FMC Ebute Meta chapter, Mr Shehu Sulaiman, disclosed this in an interview he granted the News Agency in Lagos.
