Fishermen Raise Alarm Over Contaminated Fish In Akwa Ibom

           

The Secretary of the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the Artisan Fishermen of Nigeria (ARFAN), Mr Inyang Ekong, has raised an alarm over the high rate of contaminated fishes in the state due to a recent oil spill from a facility belonging to a multinational oil firm. According to him, there is a lot of contaminated fish in the sea now, as a result of the oil spill and that, fishes caught on the Akwa Ibom coast line since then had remained unhygienic and unfit for human consumption.

NDLEA Decries Increase Rate Of Drug Abuse In Primary And Secondary Schools

               

The Anambra State Commander of The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr Sule Momodu, has called for the collaboration of education authorities, so as to fight the scourge of drug abuse amongst school pupils, which he said was on the increase in the state.

The Commander raised the alarm at the second award presentation to winners of the Lady Victoria Chito /NDLEA annual quiz competition in Awka on Tuesday.

Health Workers Lament Increasing Rate Of Insecurity Amongst Members

The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) is mobilising about 42 secondary schools in Anambra State for fight against fake and counterfeit drug and food products.

Akwa Ibom Integrate Traditional Birth Attendants Into State Health Care System

             

The Akwa Ibom State commissioner of health, Emem Bassey, said that Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) will be integrated fully into the health care system of the state, Just like few other states in Nigeria that did same. About 70 percent of pregnant women in Akwa Ibom State patronise unskilled traditional birth attendants (TBAs) during childbirth.
Bassey stated this in the state capital, Uyo, during the inauguration of a technical working committee to develop a framework for integrating the activities of TBAs into the health care system in the state.
