Gov. Fashola Commissions Solid Waste Recovery Facility



            
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola SAN, Tuesday commissioned a solid waste material recovery facility in Alimosho with a call on corporate organizations in the State to engage in Corporate Social Responsibilities in their areas of operation as a means to create image for their business and to prosper.

Addressing an audience consisting members of the Organized Private Sector, top Government functionaries, members of the Alimosho and Igando communities, PSP operators and factory workers at the factory site, Governor Fashola argued that whether or not a business would eventually become a successful would be defined by the people who work there and how happy they are made to be by the employers.

We Have Shortage Of Midwives In Bauchi State - NGO



           

There is shortage of midwives in public health institutions of Bauchi State.
Dr Halima Mukadas, the Deputy Chief of T-Ship, a Non-Governmental Organisation,(NGO) in the state, said this on Wednesday in Bauchi at a one-day workshop organised for stakeholders in the health sector.
``T-Ship’’, a Targeted State High Impact Project, is jointly funded by USAID and the Bauchi State Government.
It supports the state government in the training of manpower, provision of equipment and other materials as well as advocacy in the health sector.

Senate Passes National Tobacco Control Bill



           

The Senate has passed the National Tobacco Control Bill 2015 and the Equipment Leasing Bill 2015.
The bill when assented to by President Goodluck Jonathan will repeal the existing ``Tobacco Smoking (Control) Act, CAP.T6, LFN 2004’’, enacted in 1990 and amended years later.
The bill will ensure effective regulation and control of production, manufacture, sale, labelling, advertising, promotion and sponsorship of tobacco and tobacco products in Nigeria.

Lead Poisoning Kills 27 Children In Niger State,63 New Cases Confirmed



           

The Federal Government said on Wednesday that 27 children had died in a fresh outbreak of lead poisoning from illegal mining in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State. The outbreak is associated with new illegal mining sites, which were found to contain more leaded ores.

The Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals on Tuesday issued a seven-day ultimatum to the federal government to address its demands, failing which it would be left with no option than to commence another round of indefinite strike from May 17. This is coming just three months after their last nationwide strike which lasted four months.

Deforestation:Experts Call For Repeal Of Land Use Act In Nigeria



         

The Executive Director, Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth Nigeria, (ERA/FoEN) Dr.Godwin Uyi Ojo, in an inception workshop on “Community Mobilization and Resistance Against Land Grabbing and Transnational Oil Palm Plantations in Cross River State” in Akamkpa last week by ERA/FoEN-RainForest Resources Development Centre (IDRC), said that the massive loss of land is against the recent globally approved land guidelines of 2012, which is intended to protect communities’ right to land and forests.
