Nigerian University announces cure for HIV/AIDS

                               

Professor Maduike Ezeibe, a researcher at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, in Abia state, has discovered a new drug for the treatment and cure of HIV/AIDS.

Prof. Francis Otunta, the Vice Chancellor (VC), Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, in Abia, has confirmed the discovery of a new drug for the treatment and cure of HIV/AIDS.

Otunta told NAN at the university campus last week that the finding followed years of scientific research by the institution.

Ebola survivors suffer from brain problems after initial infection- New Study

                       

A new study had shown that the survivors of the Ebola virus disease suffer from brain impairments months after their initial infection. The virus "penetrates into the brain and causes lasting symptoms", says neurologist Lauren Bowen from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) in the United States.

Bowen and her colleagues travelled to Liberia to examine a group of people who survived the virus at least six months after their initial infection, and then follow them up over time.

This neurological study is part of a larger research project on Ebola survivors, known as Prevail III. Several medical teams - including eye doctors, infectious disease specialists and internal medicine doctors - will study other symptoms.
