SERAP drags FG to United Nations, for 'exploitative' student insurance scheme

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has sent an urgent appeal to four UN Special Rapporteurs and the Special Envoy on Global Education over the imposition of compulsory insurance scheme for students of the Federal Government Colleges.

The organization is asking them to use their “good offices and positions to urgently request the Nigerian government to immediately and unconditionally withdraw exploitative insurance scheme imposed on the students on the excuse of protection against attack and violence by Boko Haram.”

Nigeria and Turkey Collaborate On Ebola, Health Insurance

Still basking in the euphoria of its successful defeat of Ebola Virus Disease , EBV, a 10-member high level healthcare delegation from the Nigerian health public sector was in Istanbul, Turkey to discuss ways to build ties between public and private Nigerian and Turkish Healthcare institutions. Nigeria was declared Ebola free on October 20, 2014, by the World Health Organization.
 While the high level bilateral meetings lasted, talks on collaboration between Nigeria and Turkey on the emerging threat of Ebola and other infectious diseases dominated high level meetings between the two countries.

US Department Of Health Delegation Are Set To Visits Guinea and Liberia

Three delegates from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will travel to Liberia and Guinea for three days this week to visit Ebola response sites in the region.

The delegation will comprise U.S. Acting Assistant Secretary for Health, Karen DeSalvo, Assistant Secretary for Global Affairs, Jimmy Kolker and Deputy Chief of Staff Dawn O’Connel.

A mother trying to kill bed bugs in her Fort McMurray apartment used an imported pesticide that fatally poisoned her infant and left her other children critically ill.
The substance used in the apartment was a pellet form of phosphine, an agricultural pesticide that is strictly controlled in Canada and requires special training to use.
